Raising Your Voice, Part 4
In today’s high-tech world, it sometimes seems there are far fewer traditional speeches and far more “PowerPoint presentations.” Indeed, while we have not yet seen a State of the Union Address or a Presidential Inaugural speech featuring a PowerPoint, I suspect it won’t be long before we do. Engaging Mommy Bloggers
One of the most powerful ways to market your brand to consumers is via social media. An established, powerful group of influencers that are a vital branch of the social media tree are alpha moms. Acting independently, members of this little known, but highly motivated group, are shaping consumer attitudes. Have you been good to your alpha mom lately?

Economy, Pessimism and the General Election
Oregon decision-makers maintain a “bearish” outlook about the direction of the state and Oregon’s economy. Says talk show host Rush Limbaugh: “Mr. Revkin, why don’t you just go and kill yourself and help the world by dying?”

Find out what The New York Times’ Andrew Revkin has to say about the condition of the planet’s environment prompting Limbaugh’s outburst earlier this week. Listen to the NPR story.

Conkling Fiskum & McCormick is helping Ecotrust sponsor a free lecture by Andrew Revkin, considered to be the world's leading environmental reporter. He will appear at 7:30 p.m., November 10 at Portland State University’s Smith Ballroom, 1825 SW Broadway.

Revkin's Portland talk is part of his "Nine Billion People, One Planet" lecture series. Free tickets – two per person – are available at the PSU box office at Smith Memorial Student Union.

He has spent nearly a quarter century covering subjects ranging from Hurricane Katrina and the Asian tsunami to the assault on the Amazon, from the troubled relationship of science and politics to climate change at the North Pole. Revkin has been reporting on the environment for The New York Times since 1995, a job that has taken him to the Arctic three times in three years.

Before joining The Times, Revkin was a senior editor of Discover, a staff writer for the Los Angeles Times and a senior writer at Science Digest. Revkin has a biology degree from Brown University and a Master's degree in journalism from Columbia. He has taught environmental reporting as an adjunct professor at Columbia's Graduate School of Journalism.
