County commissioners from seven counties will vote Monday to determine which of three candidates selected by Republican party precinct officers will replace former Rep. John Dallum, R-The Dalles.
The candidates are John Huffman, a former broadcaster, and M.D. "Van" Van Valkenburgh, a former Wasco County assistant district attorney, both from The Dalles, and Mick Goss, a financial consultant from Madras.
Dallum represented District 59, which includes portions of Deschutes, Grant, Sherman, Wheeler, Gilliam, Jefferson and Wasco counties. Votes from Jefferson and Wasco counties will have the most weight in determining his replacement.
Dallum, a superintendent of schools for 25 years, resigned last month to take a school administration job in Montana so he could be closer to his grandchildren.
