Jessica Adamson, who has held senior staff positions for Democratic and Republican legislative leaders and lobbied on behalf of the state's heavy construction industry, will join CFM Strategic Communications October 1.
"Jessica adds experience and savvy to CFM's state lobby team," says CFM Partner Dan Jarman. "She has an intimate understanding of the Ways and Means process and budget issues, as well as solid knowledge of taxation and business issues."
During the 2011 and 2012 Oregon legislative sessions, Adamson served as chief of staff for House Co-Speaker Arnie Roblan, D-Coos Bay. In that role, she worked closely with her Republican counterpart as part of a unique power-sharing agreement to oversee state agency budgets and the Ways and Means process. She also advised Roblan on a wide range of policy issues.
Adamson worked for 10 years as public affairs director for Associated General Contractors Oregon-Columbia Chapter. She helped frame and successfully lobby a major rewrite of Oregon's public contracting statutes, as well as worked to increase funding for transportation projects and preserve the state's workers' compensation reforms. Adamson also played a major role in legislation to protect health care insurance options for Oregon small businesses.
"Her hard work, organizational skills and eye for detail made Jessica one of the most respected lobbyists in Salem," Jarman said.
Previously in her career, Adamson worked for Rep. Lynn Lundquist, R-Powell Butte, and Senator Jeannette Hamby, R-Hillsboro. She was legislative director for former House Majority Leader Dave Hunt, D-Milwaukie, and business liaison for Oregon Democratic Senator Jeff Merkley.
A native Oregonian who grew up in Albany, Adamson received her bachelor's degree in political science from Pacific University in Forest Grove, where she met and started working for Hamby. Adamson served as vice chair of the Oregon State Scholarship Commission (now the Oregon Student Access Commission).
Married with three children, Adamson lives in Sherwood and sits on the Sherwood School District Budget Committee and Sherwood Band Boosters. She performs with the Voices of the Performing Arts.
Adamson will join Jarman, Ellen Miller and Dave Fiskum on CFM's state lobby team heading into the 2013 legislative session. Adamson also will work with the firm's public affairs team, which provides communications and grassroots support for legislative initiatives.
