Over the years CFM has had many former congressional aides join its staff, but a one-time assistant to a British Member of Parliament? We can say that now.
CFM has hired Julie Ann Pyatt to work as a Government Affairs Assistant in its Washington, D.C. office. During the past two years, Julie Ann has served as a legislative aide to Congressman Gene Taylor, D-Miss. She was responsible for a legislative portfolio of issues including health care, appropriations, and financial services, housing and civil rights.
Previously she worked as a clerk for the Tuscaloosa County District Attorney’s office in Alabama and as an intern for the Office of Andrew Slaughter, Member of Parliament, in London.
Julie Ann says of her London experience: “When I initially was selected for the internship, I assumed I would be fortunate to spend my days inside the Palace of Westminister. However, people probably do not realize that Members with constituencies in London normally work out of their local offices. I would equate this with congressional district offices. Westminister is not the most efficient for today's technology or large enough to hold staff.”
“The most memorable project, however, was helping Mr. Slaughter with a publicity event to celebrate the National Health Service's (NHS) 60th Birthday,” Julie Ann adds. “The celebration was held at Charing Cross Hospital located just two blocks from the office. I was also able to meet the Health Minister, Ann Keen and learn just how important the NHS is to the people in the community.”
"Looking back on this event, it is interesting to think that only about a year and a half later, I would be in the middle of the heated health care debate at home,” she says. Julie Ann is a 2008 graduate of the University of Alabama with a degree in communications and political science. She starts her CFM position on February 1.
"I am so excited to have Julie join our federal team," says Joel Rubin, Vice President for Federal Affairs. "Julie's Capitol Hill experience, contacts in DC and her enthusiasm for all things political will provide tremendous value to our clients and compliment CFM's commitment to provide every client with professional, comprehensive service."
