CFM has hired Joel Fischer as part of its state lobbying team during the 2011 legislative session in Salem, which convened January 10 and will begin in earnest February 1. Joel will help track bills, monitor hearings and assist with client communications. CFM is representing about 30 clients this session.
Previously, Joel worked two sessions for Oregon legislators, with a focus on human services, health care, public safety and state budget and finance. He served as a policy advisor for State Senator Joanne Verger, as a legislative assistant to State Rep. Tina Kotek and has worked on several candidate campaigns.
Joel grew up in North Portland and graduated from Benson Polytechnic High School (2002) and Oregon State University (2008), majoring in political science. While at OSU he was director of state affairs for Associated Students of OSU, where he trained 16 interns to lobby the state government.
Joel also lived in Taiwan for more than a year, teaching English and studying Mandarin Chinese.
"Joel will be an important and valued member of our state lobby team this session," says CFM Partner Dave Fiskum. "He will help us monitor what's happening in the Capitol and communicate with clients. We're glad he is part of our team."
