Popularity of CFM E-newsletters Grows

CFM’s two electronic newsletters continue to grow in reader interest two years after the firm launched an HTML (visually graphic) version of the popular Insider Online and adding Tips&Trends. The newsletter archives of past articles also offer readers a rich source of news and strategic communications advice.

First started in 2001 as a text-only e-newsletter, Insider reports about Oregon and Northwest public policy trends and politics. This week issue #440 makes its appearance. The newsletter links to the most visited page on the CFM Web site, Insider Online, home of new stories posted once a week by the CFM public affairs staff. More than 80,000 unique visitors logged onto the page during the first quarter of 2009.

Since February 2007, about 50 issues of Tips&Trends have been posted. It links to the second most visited page, also called Tips&Trends, featuring articles about communications topics such as issues management, research trends, consumer marketing and general PR tips.

Members of CFM’s public relations and research staff produce stories posted every other Monday. More than 15,000 unique visitors clicked through to the Web page during the first three months of the year.

Also during the first quarter, almost 50 stories were “Sent to a friend” by newsletter followers.

“Insider Online performs double duty, demonstrating CFM’s deep understanding of regional public affairs while drawing thousands of readers to our Web site where they learn about PR and research activities, too,” says CFM Partner Gary Conkling, who heads newsletter editing and handles many writing assignments.

Adds Doug Babb, Senior Associate responsible for Tips&Trends production: “We’d enjoy hearing what communications topics are of interest to our subscribers.” Tips readers may suggest ideas or post their opinions in the “Comments” section found at the top of each Tip article.
